Twelve coaches of the New-Delhi bound train number 12303 Howrah – New Delhi Poorva express derailed at Rooma railway station last night at 50 minutes past midnight injuring 14 passengers, but with no casualties.
Rooma is situated on the Allahabad – Kanpur section of North Central Railway’s (NCR) Allahabad division, approximately 16 km before Kanpur Central.
The accident occurred near the advance starter signal of Rooma on the UP line ( towards Kanpur) at kilometre marker 1005/17. The train was being hauled by a WAP-7 locomotive number 30716 of the Howrah electric loco shed and had an LHB coach rake.
The derailed coaches include two II class sleeper class coaches (S8 and S9), five III AC coaches (B1 to B5), Two II AC coaches (A1 and A2), one pantry car, one luggage / EOG coach and one composite I AC / II AC coach HA1.
The passengers were brought to Kanpur Central by bus and sent to New Delhi a special train, said a statement.
Fitness of DOWN track between Kanpur-Rooma was received at 06:20 hours and trains will be run with a temporary speed restriction of 20 kmph. Thus all Down trains (trains towards Allahabad) which were diverted earlier will be run on their original route.
