South Central Railway has transported over 40 million litres of milk from Renigunta to Delhi by the special Doodh Duronto service, according to South Central Railway.
The zone started the service as a response to supply disruptions faced by farmers and dairies during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The first run of the train was on 26th March 2020, operating every alternate day. From 15th July, it was converted to a daily. Doodh Duronto covered the 2,300-kilometre distance between Renigunta and Delhi in 34 hours.
So far, 167 Doodh Duronto services have been operated by SCR, normally operating with 6 tanker wagons per run. Each tanker wagon has a capacity of 40,000 litres. Therefore, the total volume of milk transported since the service began is 40 million litres.
Milk transported through this special train has been collected by a unit of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) from more than 3,000 assembling points spread over 13,000 villages in and around the Chittoor district.
