The presence of mind of an alert TTE saved the life of a child who fell under a train about to start from Surat station.
The incident occurred on 19th August 2020 when a family alighted from their train with their 2-year-old girl at Surat station. They were travelling by the Mumbai Central-Jaipur special. As they started walking towards the exit on platform 1, the baby girl lagged behind and fell on the track under the train.
K S Solanki, a Travelling Ticket Examiner from Western Railway was manning coaches S-3, S-4 and S-5 of the same train. He spotted the child falling under. In the meantime, the train had already received the signal and was about to start.
Realising this, Solanki dashed into the S-4 coach and immediately pulled the Alarm Chain, forcing the train to stay in place. He then reached the spot where he saw the little one fall and with the help of passengers retrieved her from under the train.
“Solanki’s alertness helped to save the life of the little girl, for which the parents were grateful. Western Railway employees have always gone beyond their call of duty to render their valuable services to passengers, said,” said CPRO of Western Railways Sumit Thakur.
