New Parcel & Goods Shed at Bhivandi Road Railway Station of Mumbai Division
Mumbai Division has opened New Parcel & Goods shed at Bhivandi Road Railway Station on 18.8.2020 to handle the cargo parcel trains and goods trains. Apart from this Kalyan and Taloja Panchanad depot on Mumbai Division are already open for handling parcel cargo express trains.
After opening of Bhivandi for goods and parcel,it is expected that Railway traffic will get a boost because of many warehouses in this area and also presence of MIDC areas near by.
Central Railway is also running CSMT (Mumbai)-Shalimar & CSMT(Mumbai)-Chennai Central Parcel Special Trains till 31.12.2020 to handling parcel cargo express train.
Mumbai Division of Central Railway ran 345 parcel trains since lockdown and transported 9,436 tonnes of parcels and other commodities resulting in earnings of Rs 4.23 crores till date.
Railways have formed a multidisciplinary Business Development Unit (BDU) at Zonal level and Divisional levels on Central Railway. This unit consisting of senior officers interacts frequently with trade and industry to generate more traffic for Railways. The opening of Bhivandi for goods and parcel is one initiative taken by BDU to boost Railway traffic from Mumbai division.
