Indian Railways (IR) will run 40 pairs of trains starting next Saturday (September 12, 2020). These will be fully reserved trains.
Advance reservation for these trains will open on September 10, 2020 according to V K Yadav, Chairman and CEO Railway Board.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Yadav said, these trains are being provided on routes with high occupancy rates. This could be observed from the wait list numbers and the duration of wait list, he added.
The list is as follows:
Clone Trains
IR has also decided to run clone trains between two pairs of stations on routes where the waitlists are high. These trains will depart just before the original train already running on the route. For example, a clone of Kalka mail from Kalka to Howrah will leave Kalka just about half an hour before Kalka mail.
These clone trains will have lesser number of halts than the original train, Yadav said adding that the objective was to reduce the waitlists across routes with high occupancy levels.
The choice of trains to be cloned will be based on continuous monitoring of occupancy levels. Only those with an increase rate and duration of waitlists will be cloned, he added.
Of the 200 plus special trains running on IR as on date, average occupancy levels had risen from 75 per cent to over 80 per cent, Yadav summed up.
