A.K. Rai, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS)/ Southern Circle, Bengaluru conducted inspection of 73 KM Kariganuru-Harlapur Electrified section and conducted Speed trial with Electric Loco from Harlapur to Kariganuru on 24.09.2020.
The work of Electrification between Ballari to Hubballi (209 KM) is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited. Earlier, the section Traction Sub Station (TSS) at Kariganuru to serve Electrification between Kariganuru and Harlapur was commissioned on 02.08.2020.With TSS commissioned at Kariganuru, section between Ballari to Harlapur (132 Km) became fully electrified and was due for CRS inspection.
CRS inspected Kariganuru Traction Substation, Sectioning Post (SP) between Munirabad-Ginigera, Sub Sectioning Posts (SSP) between Koppal-Ginigera and Bhanapur-Bannikoppa, Level Crossing gates between Koppal-Ginigera and Koppal-Bhanapur, Tungabhadra Bridge between Hosapete and Munirabad. He also inspected Koppal station, bridge and curve between Koppal-Bhanapur etc. After the inspection from Kariganuru to Harlapur, he conducted a Speed Trial with maximum speed upto 110 KMPH between Harlapur to Kariganuru.
After CRS authorizes to run Electric Loco, Passenger trains powered by Electrical Locomotives will start running in this section. Mobility of train services on the section will improve once Electric trains start running. In addition to reduction in pollution; economy and efficiency of Train operations will improve due to shift from traction of trains from Diesel to electricity. During the last financial year 197 Km of electrification was done in South Western Railway which includes Ballari-Tornagallu (34 km) Tornagallu – Ranjithpura (23 Km), Ballari-Rayadurg (53 Km), Rayadurg – Thalaku (48 Km) and Baiyyappanahalli – Anekal (34 Km).
