Central Railway has decided to run 3 pairs of trains for Nagercoil/Thiruvananthapuram hauled by electric loco end to end.
The following are the pairs of trains.
16340 Nagarcoil – Mumbai express; ex Nagercoil from 23.12.2019 via Krishnarajapuram, Salem
16339 Mumbai – Nagercoil express; ex CSMT from 25.12.2019 via Krishnarajapuram, Salem
16352 Nagercoil – Mumbai express ; ex Nagercoil from 26.12.2019 via Renigunta
16351 Mumbai – Nagercoil express; ex CSMT from 28.12.2019 via Renigunta
16332 Trivendrum – Mumbai express; ex Trivendrum from 28.12.2019 via Ernaukulam, Coimbatore, Krishnarajapuram
16331 Mumbai – Trivendrum express; ex Mumbai from 30.12.2019 via Krishnarajapuram, Coimbatore, Ernaukulam.
However the distance between Daund & Wadi (338kms) is yet to be fully electrified. Hence the trains will be hauled by Diesel loco in this section without detaching the Electric loco. As a result, Diesel loco will be used only for that portion where electrification is not yet complete.
This decision follows Railway Board’s policy of not running Diesel locomotives in an electrified territory. Thereby saving on fuel cost.
If they follow this they can run all the trains in this section on same type..
trains runing on konkan railway can have electric loco where the line is electrified & in non electrified area disel,locos can be attached without detaching electri locos there by saving fuel.
