On 3rd February, 2019, Central Railway has been running Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) services for a full 94 years, announced officials in a statement on the occasion.
The first EMU service with a 4 coach rake was flagged off on 3rd February 1925 by Sir Leslie Wilson, the then Governor of Mumbai. The zone was then known as Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR).
The service ran from Bombay VT (now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai) to Kurla via the Harbour line. The service has since transformed the way a city commuted and the manner in which it grew out of the islands that made up the original urban area.

1987 – 12-car towards Karjat
2008 – 12-car towards Kasara
