Central Railway (CR) generated a revenue of Rs 143.94 crore in parcel business during the first half of FY22.
CR has been consistently topping this business among all zonal railways since June 2021 said a statement.
Kisan Rail
The zone earned Rs 29.43 Cr for September 2021 transporting 3.28 lakh tonnes. The growth in parcel traffic is mainly due to Kisan Rail. Since inception, Kisan Rail has carried over 2.18 lakh tonnes of perishables running 625 trips.
Farm produce from Sangola, Manmad, Nashik, Bhusawal, Raver and Savda are being delivered efficiently to Danapur, Muzaffarpur, Delhi (Adarshnagar) and Shalimar.
Pomegranate, grapes, lemon, capsicum from Solapur region, Flowers from Latur and Osmanabad region, Onions from Nashik region, Bananas from Bhusawal region, Oranges from Nagpur region besides other fruits & vegetables reached distant markets such as Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal thanks to Kisan Rail.
CR is planning to run a dedicated Parcel cargo express service between Bhiwandi Road to Azra while tenders for such trains between between Jalgaon and Changsari and Sankrail.have also been invited.
Recently, CR awarded a new 6-yr Parcel cargo express train contract between Godhani (Nagpur) to New Tinsukia with a revenue potential of Rs 52 crore. CR is already running a time tabled Parcel Special Train between Mumbai and Shalimar carrying 350 tons of parcels daily and generating revenue of about Rs 20.28 crore during this fiscal. Rail milk tankers being transported between Nagpur to Delhi generated a revenue of Rs. 91 Lakhs during H1FY22.
CR’s Mumbai division contributed Rs 53.34 crore to parcel business revenue followed by Bhusawal division with Rs 44.23 crore. Solapur division generated a revenue of Rs 25.38 crore. CR opened 22 new stations for Parcel traffic during the last one and a half years including 19 during Covid period of last year.
