The Railway Protection Force of Mumbai Division of Central Railway, in its exemplary display of grit and determination plays a vital role in ensuring the safe travel of the essential staff during this fearsome time of Coronavirus Pandemic. Central Railway runs 200 Special Local Trains (130 on Main line & 70 on Harbour line) for the essential staff on the request of the State Government. Railway Protection Force personnel in coordination with GRP and Civil Police has put in various efforts to ensure Mumbaikars in adopting to the new normal of maintaining social distancing across its suburban stations and trains.
Ensuring thousands of essential service providers, board the trains in Queue and following Social Distancing measures is a tough challenge. Central Railway deployed 2400 RPF and RPSF personnel 24×7 across all Suburban Stations including CSMT, Dadar, Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Panvel to ensure the safety of Passengers during Suburban Train operations for essential workers. Apart from over 50000 social distancing markings like Circles, Arrows, Squares, lines on Platforms and Foot Over Bridges to guide the Passengers, implementing Station Security Plan to ensure 1 or 2 entry / exit points at Stations for safe travel, appealing Passengers to follow the discipline through announcements, RPF also used various technological solutions like CCTV based Video analysis, High speed automatic thermal screening system is in operation at the CSMT station to protect the passengers from any possible spread of infection, 24X7 helpline was also established for easy access and prompt support service.
The Railway Protection Force of Central Railway in its endeavour to provide a safe travel and virus free environment to the Passengers rendering essential service to the City of Mumbai has effectively coordinated with Government Railway Police, Local Police and Municipal Corporations. All these agencies play a cohesive role in protecting, safeguarding and moving the passengers to meet in our fight against Covid-19. CENTRAL RAILWAY APPEAL’S to its esteemed travelers to follow medical protocol like wearing of mask and maintaining of social distancing as mandated for COVID19 for their own safety. Only the essential staff as identified by the State Government should travel by these selected suburban services. Others are kindly requested not to rush to the stations.
