CR’s Parel Workshop, develops improved design prototype automobile carrier

Central Railway’s (CR) Parel Workshop has developed a prototype coach for carrying automobiles.

The workshop developed the New Modified Goods coach (NMGH) with improved fall plate for easier loading of automobiles, lashing channels for proper securing of vehicles, fully welded chequered plate floor, louvers for ventilation and natural pipe light illumination in 45 days.

The new design will increase the speed potential of NMGH coach from 75 to 110 kmph said a statement from CR. RDSO will conduct oscillation trials of this coach.

The decision to develop the prototype is the outcome of an interaction between automakers and Railways recently.

Manufacturers suggested improvements in end opening, door design, fall plate and coach floor design & guidance for loading and unloading to improve the New Modified Goods (NMG) coach which is used for transporting automobiles.

The prototype NMGH coach has proper entry slope, markers on floor for guidance, retro-refractive marking on floor, pillar and carline for guidance besides unrestricted full height end opening.
