Residents of Karnataka’s Davangere are set to experience modern passenger amenities with the inauguration of the new station building at Davangere railway station.
Davangere’s new station building is a modern structure that has been designed for future expansion. The passenger area also features lifts, a cafeteria, a VIP lounge and separate waiting areas for ladies. Also available are new dormitories with separate areas for ladies and other amenities.
The station building was constructed as part of the line doubling project. Land was also contributed to the project by the state government to facilitate the work. The development work cost 17.50 crores including the construction of a second entry and installation of escalators.
The old station building was of the metre gauge erawith inadequate amenities. During gauge conversion,platforms were raised, resulting in the old station building becoming lower than the platform level.

The Member of Parliament for Davangere, G M Siddeshwara, inaugurated the station building in the presence of Rahul Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru Division and local elected representatives from Davangere. Earlier he also formally opened the Road Under Bridge No.18 A near DCM layout for vehicular traffic.
The MP expressed confidence of laying the new line connecting Davangere, Chitradurga and Tumakuru, shortly. He thanked the state government for sanctioning Rs. 97 crores for the project and said about 49 crores has already been spent in acquiring 227 acres of land in Davangere and Chitradurga district.
