As part of Hosapete – Tinaighat – Vasco-da-Gama doubling, the section between Hubballi and Dharwad twin cities is being doubled. In this work, the stretch of Dharwad -Navalur-Unkal is now completed.
Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) conducted a statutory inspection of newly laid double line Section between Dharwad to Unkal (17 Km) on 14.10.2020. After compliance of observations in the inspection, CRS on 16.10.2020 has given authorization for running of passenger and goods trains between Dharwad and Unkal on Newly laid double line.
The work of Non- interlocking was taken up immediately by availing line blocks. The latest signalling system with Electronic Interlocking was commissioned in Dharwad on 16.10.2020. This electronic system of operation of points and signals along with interlocking various gears for safe operations was of Centralized Architecture with 55 routes.
Train No.01630 Express on 16th Oct. 2020 was the first train dealt on signals that passed through the newly laid double line between Dharwad and Navalur at 21:15 hrs. Work of Non-Interlocking at Navalur station and track between Navalur and Hubbali Bye-pass west started in 16th Oct. As part of this Navalur Station will be commissioned for 148 route distributed Electronic Interlocking.
Authorization from CRS was received on 16.10.2020 and within a short time, double line block section was commissioned for traffic between Dharwad and Navalur on 17.10.2020. At Unkal station, a new station building with an island platform and new Foot over bridge has been constructed under this work.
This doubling work was accomplished with two cut and connections; one between Dharwad and Unkal and other between Unkal and Hubballi. Cut and connection involved making new track first for a certain stretch, then cutting off connection to old track and connect New track.
The work of doubling Hubballi West to Hubbali involves Hubballi yard remodelling in which the world’s longest platform is coming up and same is expected to commission early next year.
