Setting its sight on a target of one million ton fly ash haulage, East Coast Railway is now pitching the 40% freight rebate scheme on fly ash haulage to user and producer industries.
ECoR officials from various departments met representatives from the power, steel, aluminium and cement plants via video conference.
Tata Steel, GMR, National Thermal Power Corporation and Dalmia Cement representatives attended the meeting.
According to an ECoR statement, it was estimated that one million tons of fly ash can be moved by rail in the six remaining months of this financial year. Participants also agreed to make joint efforts to ensure full utilisation of fly ash using the 40% rebate scheme provided by Indian Railways, claimed ECoR.
Indian Railways has been looking for various ways to increase its freight business in the wake of the gap in revenues left by the COVID-19 pandemic and the sharp decline in passenger traffic revenues.
