Kavach is soon set to protect Indian Railways passengers. East Central Railway (ECR) has floated an EPC tender worth Rs. 151 crore tender for the installation of the Kavach key route. between Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction (DDU), earlier known as Mughalsarai (MGS), and Pradhankhunta.
This work on the 417 km stretch is part of the 160 kmph upgrade project underway between Delhi and Kolkata. The installation of an automatic train protection system is one of the prerequisites of the 160 kmph work on both the Mumbai-Delhi and Delhi-Howrah Golden-Quadrilateral routes.

The project will be contracted out on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis, to be completed within 24 months from the date of award of the contract.
Kavach was earlier known as Train Collision Avoidance System by Indian Railways during its development phase. It is a SIL-4 compliant train protection technology that is designed to prevent accidents due to human errors such as overshooting red signals, overspeeding and other unsafe situations.
The system was developed in house by Indian Railways and tested over several years in South Central Railway (SCR). According to an ECR statement, Kavach will help achieve Indian Railways its goal of zero accidents.
