Electrification on the Anekal-Periyanaganthunai section of South Western Railway’s Baiyappanahalli-Omalur was opened to traffic yesterday after inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.
DRM Ashok Kumar Verma announced that the CRS inspection and speed trial of newly electrified 44 km Anekal (excluding) – Perianagantunai (including) section was successful.
The 38 km Baiyappanhalli-Anekal section was electrified in March 2020. Electrification between Periyanaganthunai – Palakkodu is targeted for completion by March 2021.
According to SWR, electrification of this section will help the zone start a MEMU service on the Bayyappanahalli – Hosur route. The zone will also be able to cater to the demand for more trains in the area, an SWR statement claimed.
197 Km of route was electrified on SWR in 2019-20. This includes Bellary – Toranagallu (34 Km) Toranagallu-Ranjitpur (23 Km) Bellary – Rayadurg (53 Km) Rayadurg – Thalaku (48 Km) and Baiyappanahalli – Anekal (34 Km), according to SWR data.
