Southern Railway Designs Electronic Sensor Based Wash Basin

Southern Railway RPF Special team designs Electronic Sensor based Wash Basin for RPF Outposts and barracks

Southern Railway endeavours to provide safe and clean ambience at workplaces.  Upon the outbreak of COVID-19, disinfecting and cleaning of railway stations, Workshops, service buildings, administrative offices and railway colonies is being carried out on regular basis.

Further, to promote hand hygiene among staff, foot pedal operated hand wash basins and contactless sanitizer dispensers are continuously proliferated at work-spots. A novel endeavour by RPF special technical team, a movable and electronic sensor based wash basin has been designed using the  scrap  railway materials.

The team worked round the clock and have successfully completed making 100 such Electronic Sensor based movable wash basins in a short span. Each wash basin contains 30 welds. This was successfully completed by a team of 20 RPF personnel of various ranks. Building of these units were carried out by the team members at General Stores Depot, Perambur.  The sensor detects hands from 10 to 15 cm distance and prompts the release of sanitiser.  At 20 to 40 cm distance, water is released.  This contactless wash basin facility is safer and reliable.

These kiosks will be provided at RPF Outposts and barracks all over Southern Railway for the benefit of RPF personnel.  Initially, the facility will be installed at 78 RPF Outposts and barracks and will be extended to other units in phases. On 15th May, 2020 the first unit of Electronic sensor based movable wash basin was inaugurated at RPF Mobilization hall in Chennai.
