Eastern Railway (ER) has commissioned the double line on the Bhattanagar -Baltikuri section situated on the Andul-Dankuni line on Thursday.
With this, a critical bottle neck affecting interchange of trains between Eastern and South Eastern Railway (SER) has been removed post clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
The line will now be able to handle over 25 train pairs as against the existing 20 and that too with minimal detention,a statement from ER said.
It will ease traffic congestion due to frequent detention and facilitate operational flexibility between ER and SER, it added .
Further, it will enhance punctuality of mail/express trains as discretion and choice of both sides (ER and SER) will be eliminated besides reducing manpower requirement, the statement concluded.
