Running trains during foggy winter season
To ensure safety of passengers, ER has adopted a set of precautions to be followed diligently by Loco Pilots, Guards and Station Masters.
The staff directly related to train operations has been specially counselled about the precautions to be followed.
The measures are as follows:
1. Guide pocket book along with safety instructions has been distributed to all Loco Pilots, Guard, Station Master and other staff related to train passing. This guide book includes all instructions related to speed restrictions during appearance of dense fog, creation of fog signal posts and proper placement of fog signals in case of decreased visibility.
2. Scratch rake will be kept ready wherever possible to start train in time in case of abnormal late running of trains. This will help in maintaining punctuality and reducing cancellation of trains in spite of late arrival (if any) of corresponding link rakes due to restricted speed in observing safety measures during foggy weather.
3. Safety inspection at night by the officers will be intensified. This will increase safety alertness among all field staff.
4. Frequency of some trains has been reduced to improve the mobility in sections with higher traffic density.
5. Procurement of Fog Safe Devices is under process. This will help in increasing maximum permissible speed where such devices are available and working and will help in minimising delay in train running.
