Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) felicitated four railway employees for exceptional devotion and alertness, while performing their duty.
1. Pranab Das, Track Maintainer under Rangiya division on October 30, 2019 at Level Crossing gate No. RT-5, noticed a herd of elephants crossing the railway track near the gate at railway KM 8/9-9/0 between Rangapara – Bindukuri.
At that time, Train Number. 55862 DN Dekargaon – Rangiya passenger had also left from Bindukuri station. He promptly informed on duty station master of Bindukuri Railway Station over gate phone to control the train. The train was controlled and lives of elephants were saved.
2. Dipak Ch. Nath, Pointsman under Rangiya division was engaged to watch the through passed Train Number 14055 DN Brahmaputra Mail from off side on October 20, 2019.
He noticed brake binding in the rear SLR coach of the train and immediately showed red hand signal to the Guard of the train and on duty station master/Kendukona. The train was controlled at once,brake binding was removed and a probable mishap averted.
3. Mriganka Shekhar Saikia, Sr. Section Engineer (P-Way) under Lumding division was engaged at Major Bridge No. 283 [located at railway KM 274/8-9 between Bokajan – Chungajan] to monitor the increasing flood water level on October 27, 2019.
At about 17:00 hours he noticed water level had increased beyond danger level and excessive scouring of the abutment No. A-1. He suspended train running in that section with immediate effect averting a probable mishap.
4. Nandjee Kumar, driver under Tinsukia division while working train number 13281 New Tinsukia – Rajendra Nagar Express on October 20, 2019, noticed a herd of elephant crossing the railway track at railway KM 362/8-9 between Titabor – Mariani at about 17:20 hours.
He immediately applied emergency brake and controlled the train just 25 m before the elephant herd. Thus the lives of the elephant were saved and a probable mishap was averted.
Each of them was given a cash award of Rs 3000 and a certificate by General Manager NFR.
