Passengers booking retiring rooms at railway stations have a reason to cheer. IR has reduced the GST applicable its retiring room tariff to six per cent for per day tariff above Rs 1000 and up to Rs 7500, effective October.
In addition, the upper limit of the first slab where GST is applicable has been increased from Rs 2500 per day to Rs 7500 per day.
This follows the notification of the finance ministry dated September 30, 2019.
No GST is applicable for retiring room rent which cost up to Rs 1000 per day as before. For room rent of above Rs 1000 per day up to Rs 7500 per day, GST would be charged at six per cent. For rentals above Rs 7500 per day nine per cent GST would apply.
Earlier, the first slab where GST was applicable was from above Rs 1000 per day up to Rs 2500 per day. The rate of GST applied was also 12 per cent.
