The Green line of Hyderabad Metro Rail from Jubilee Bus Station / Parade Grounds, Secunderabad to Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station / Imlibun, Hyderabad will undergo inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety from January 9th – 11th.
The CMRS inspection will cover structural integrity tests of the alignment, view operational procedures including speed and signalling, passenger amenities and announcement protocols, fire and hazard evacuation safety measures amongst others.
The 11 km long corridor runs through some of the busiest areas of Hyderabad which are both commercially as well as residentially important. The Green Line will have nine stations, viz, JBS – Parade Grounds (Interchange with Blue Corridor), Secunderabad West (connecting to Secunderabad Railway station), Gandhi Hospital, Musheerabad, RTC X Rds, Chikkadpally, Narayanguda, Sultan Bazar and MGBS (Interchange with Red Corridor).
The original alignment extends to Falaknuma via Salar Jung Museum, Alijah Kotla, Charminar, Shalibanda and Shamsheergunj. However, there have been issues with the locals pertaining to land acquisition and the alignment has not seen any work between MGBS- Falaknuma. The line has interconnection with the Blue line from Nagole-Hitec City-Raidurg at Parade Grounds and with the Red line from Miyapur-LB Nagar at MGBS
If the safety certificate is obtained, services could start within a couple of weeks. Municipal elections in Hyderabad are scheduled for January 22nd with the results to be announced on the 25th.
With a positive sanction, services could be inaugurated on Republic Day, January 26th. The state government’s official Republic Day celebrations take place at Parade Grounds, right next to where the alignment starts.
