Indian Railways have to consult the Home Ministry before running Shramik Trains henceforth. This was spelt out by the Ministry of Home Affairs in an order dated May 19, 2020.
Outlining the revised standard operating procedure the Home Ministry said all states and Union Territories ( UT) have to appoint nodal authorities for sending and receiving stranded persons.
Indian Railways (IR) has to finalise the train schedule, stoppages and destination based on the requirements of the states / UTs so that the stranded passengers may be sent and received accordingly.
The Indian Railways have to publicize train schedule, passenger protocol, services to be provided in coaches besides the arrangement made with the states for booking tickets the Home Ministry said.
States have to screen all passengers and allow only those who are asymptomatic to travel.
Passengers have to observe social distancing while boarding the train and travelling besides abiding by the health protocols outlines by the destination state/ UT.
