RAILWAYS JOIN HANDS WITH E-COMMERCE CONGLOMERATE FOR FACILITATE SMOOTH AND QUICK TRANSPORT
To keep up the food supply chain across the country, Railway has introduced timetabled parcel trains for nationwide transport of essential commodities, goods and medicines in the wake of lockdown due to COVID-19 virus.
To ensure availability of essentials to all parts of the country SWR has invited local industries, e-commerce companies, interested groups, individuals and other prospective loaders to book parcels on these trains. Hon’ble Minister of Railway and Hon’ble MOSR have also generated awareness of timetable parcel trains through social media and other publicity. National level coverage in media have also generated lot of awareness about these trains and attracted potential customers.
Bengaluru Division of SWR has for the first time roped in e-commerce conglomerates and have started sending it’s consignments through timetabled parcel trains from Bengaluru to Howrah.
One of the e-commerce companies loaded total 10,500 kg consignments till date and following its success, another e-commerce company has come forward and loaded 500 kg. E-commerce companies have so far loaded 11 Tonnes of parcel. The diversification of e-commerce companies to send consignment through Railway will open a new partnership with Railways which will help both Railways and e-commerce conglomerates.
Bengaluru Division of SWR has today successfully attained hundred percent loading of 05 VPH i.e. 131 Tonnes. Today’s trip from Bengaluru to DMV (Dimapur) carried 131 MT of livestock, Hatching eggs, vegetables, fruits, medicine, medical equipments etc., Bengaluru Division achieved another milestone in Parcel Train segment by surpassing loading of 1000 Tonnes of Parcel traffic till date after introduction Timetabled Parcel Cargo express.
SWR has also taken up the social responsibility by running time-tabled parcel trains even on those routes where demand is less so that no part of the country remains unconnected. Coordination is being done between state government and Railways to ensure that all essential goods are loaded/unloaded without delay.
