International Level Crossing Awareness Day Celebrated By Bengaluru Division

Bangalore Division of South Western Railway, today (11.06.2020) under the guidance of Shri Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day.  

Shri Aman Deep Kapoor, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Operations), Shri K. V. Gopinath, Sr. Divisional Safety Officer along with Safety Counsellors, Scouts and Guides and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a safety campaign to educate road users at Level Crossing Gates.

As a part of the campaign, banners and posters were displayed at LC gates and hand bills were distributed to road users.

Scouts and Guides enacted skits near LC gates to create awareness.

Quiz competitions were conducted for road users about safety signs/indications and precautions to be taken while crossing LC gates. People who answered correctly were awarded.

One lakh SMS messages were sent to road users advising them to avoid using mobile phones while crossing LC gates.

Bengaluru Division has no unmanned LC gates. No accident has occurred at LC gates in Bengaluru Division in the last three years.

Indian Railways has successfully achieved “Mission Zero Unmanned Level Crossing Gate” in 2018.
At all the Railway Gates, either Gate man or Gate Mitra is present. It is targeted to eliminate all Railway Gates in a phased manner for ensuring smooth and speedier passage of Rail and Road Traffic.

ILCAD (International Level Crossing Awareness Day) spearheaded by IUC (International Union of Railways), aims to create awareness about the dangers associated with level crossings. Today is observed as the 12th International Level Crossing Day by many countries.
