Indian Railways (IR) registered an 18 per cent growth in freight loading at 1029.94 MT during FY 22 (up to December 31,2021) as against 870.41 MT in FY21 during the same period.
Freight Train Speed:
IR was able to increase the average speed of goods trains to 44.36 kmph during FY22 as against the average of 42.97 kmph during FY21 the year ago o period (upto 31.12.2021).
IR launched Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal Policy to fast track the approvals and ease of establishing Cargo Terminals. This aimed to increase the freight loading share of IR among competing modes of transport.
Kisan Rail
The first Kisan Rail Service was flagged off between Devlali (Maharashtra) and Danapur (Bihar) on 7th August 7, 2021 by the Railway Minister. As on date, 1806 Kisan Rails have been run on 153 routes (up to December 24, 2021) and carried around 5.9 lakh tonnes of agricultural products
Passenger Trains
IR has started running 1646 Mail/ Express trains or 93 per cent out of the pre-covid total of 1768 train services.
Of its 5626 suburban services, IR is running 98 per cent that is 5528.
IR has also started running 1599 out of 3634 or 44 per cent of its long distance passenger trains. Punctuality of Mail/Express trains is 92.55% during FY22 (upto December 31,2021).
Bharat Gaurav- Theme Based Trains: To tap the vast tourism potential of India, IR launched a theme based tourist circuit trains ‘Bharat Gaurav’.
The first such train covering the Ramayan circuit was run by IRCTC. Service Providers would be able to refurbish the coaches and have full flexibility to decide the themes, tariff, interior designs and other business modalities.
Enhanced Safety
IR commissioned CCTVs in 47 stations during the year taking the total to 840. A total of 22 consequential accidents happened during FY22 as compared to 14 during FY21 and 48 during FY20.
