Indian Railways (IR) has decided to do the final location survey for doubling of 31 sections across its network.
The Railway Board conveyed this decision to all the zones concerned on January 16, 2020.
Once completed, IR would have doubled 4,499.23 route kilometres of its network.
The move will enhance capacity of these sections of these lines situated mostly between two main lines serving as a connector. The details of the sections are given below:-

The final location survey will include traffic surveys.
A detailed project report (DPR) for all these projects with proper due diligence has to be prepared.
In addition, the concerned zones also have to estimate the actual cost and the rate of return of these lines without being guided by budget estimates outlined in the pink book.
These projects will then be put up for approval from the Rail Ministry, Finance Ministry and the Union Cabinet.
