MOU signed with Railtel Enterprises to test the technology on four sections
Indian Railways has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 1609 crore with Railtel Enterprises to implement mobile train communication (MTRC) on its network. RailTel Enterprises is a subsidiary of Public Sector Undertaking Railtel Corporation
The MoU entails implementation of automatic train protection system with LTE (long term evolution) technology based mobile train communication system (MTRC) together with provision of electronic interlocking (train radio indoor) signalling system on four sections.
These sections are 165 km on Renigunta (RU) – Yerraguntla (YA) section of South Central Railway; 145 km on Vizianagaram (VZM) –Palasa (PSA) section on East Coast Railway, 155 km on Jhansi (JHS) – Bina (BINA) section on North Central Railway and 175 km on Nagpur (NGP) – Badnera (BD) Section on Central Railway.
The Modern Train Control System shall be deployed using LTE backbone for communication between train running staff, drivers, guards and the control office. This system will also be used for working of Automatic Train Protection System. Initially, this system will be provided on 500 Locomotives.
The pilot project is likely to be completed in 24 months and envisages up gradation of the signalling system at par with world standards besides increasing line capacity. On successful implementation, IR plans to roll it out on important high-density routes of the Railway network.
