North Central Railway (NCR) has extended three pairs of MEMU service between Gwalior and Jora Alapur up to Kailaras last Sunday. This follows the completion of gauge conversion and route electrification works in the 13-km section between Jora Alapur and Kailaras at a cost of Rs 163 crore. This section is a part of the Gwalior-Sheopurkalan line.
The newly gauge converted section was inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the presence of Union Minister for North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia and other dignitaries.
The 188-km Gwalior-Sheopurkalan gauge conversion project is to be completed at a cost of Rs 2355 crore. Of this, a total of 61 km track work has been completed. The remaining works until Sheopurkalan is likely to be completed by July 2025 with subsequent extension to Kota.
The state of Madhya Pradesh (MP) has been allocated Rs 14700 crores for the development of railways in this year’s Union Budget. In the last decade, 222-km of new lines, 707-km of gauge conversion, 1200-km of multitracking projects has been done. Besides, seven Vande Bharat services as on date have also been introduced. In addition, Gwalior and Khajuraho stations are also being redeveloped.
