Stressing on the need for the dedicated freight corridors, he said as the population and the economy grew, the demand for freight haulage increased manifold.

With the commissioning of these new lines, problems of delayed passenger trains would be resolved, he claimed Speeds of freight train would increase 3 times and the network will be able to carry double the volume of goods, PM Modi declared.

PM Modi said the industrial corridors of Delhi-Mumbai and Amritsar-Kolkata are being developed around the freight corridors. North-South and East-West corridors are also being planned, he announced.

The PM also said the government was focussed on widening and electrification of the rail network and elimination of unmanned rail crossings.
