As part of its yearly exercise Central Railway (CR) will discontinue passenger services between Neral and Aman lodge during monsoon (from June 10,2023 to October 15,2023). This section sees heavy rainfall and landslides during monsoon.
This hill railway is discontinued each year between Neral and Aman Lodge during monsoon to ensure safety.[Neral-Matheran is one of the two hill railway lines which run 2-feet narrow gauge services in India,the other being Darjeeling Himalayan Railway].
Monsoon Fury
In 2005, the whole railway line was washed away during the monsoon. Moreover, this line was severely damaged at over 20 locations during the 2019 monsoon.
Shuttle Services
However, shuttle services between Matheran and Aman Lodge will continue to run as per the current schedule in force. The timings of shuttle services between Aman Lodge and Matheran are as under –
