More Humsafar Trains Coming Soon?

Or will some existing services be discontinued?

The Indian Railways may be planning to conduct a review of Humsafar Trains for deployment on key routes.

Expected to be completed by 30th of September, the review ostensibly seeks to scrutinize the performance of existing services and to identify routes to deploy new Humsafar trains.

35 pairs of Humsafar trains are currently in service across the Indian Railways network. The Humsafar was one of three new classes of trains launched by the former Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu between 2015-16.

Reduction in fares

IR also announced a reduction in fares for the fully 3AC Humsafar class of trains last week. This was done in a bid to improve patronage for the class plagued by low occupancy as a result of inflated dynamic fares.

As a result, base fares of Humsafar trains are now fixed at 1.15 times the base fare of a generic Mail/Express class train. Dynamic fares are no longer applicable. All other charges will continue to be extra as usual.

Addition of non-AC sleeper coaches

The Railway Board has also approved rationalization of coaches and attachment of non-AC sleeper coaches to Humsafar trains where required. The Humsafar class was a fully airconditioned train earlier.

Four sleeper coaches have already been attached to the 12275/76 New Delhi – Allahabad Humsafar Express and 22437/22438 Anand Vihar (Delhi) – Allahabad Humsafar Express.

  1. All Humsafar expresses having LHB racks with 160KMPH speed limit, but all humsufur express avg speed is same as avg speed of some express trains which runs with ICF coaches. Why railway not increasing avg speed to humsafar expressess to atleast 70KMPH.
