The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to slightly modify the alignment of Mumbai Metro’s Dahisar-Mira Bhayander Line 9 to avoid acquisition and demolition of several commercial units.
The alignment has also been modified to make Pandurangwadi the interchange station for Line 9 and 10. Pandurangwadi will also become the terminating station for the Gaimukh-Mira Road Line 10.
The Line 10 Detailed Project Report had envisaged Shivaji Chowk, approx two km north of the planned Pandurangwadi station, as the terminus for the line.
As per the original plan, the alignment after Ovaripada transverses along the east of Western Express Highway (WEH). The line shifts to the median and then to the west side before the gate. This and the planned Pandurangwadi station to the west of WEH would have required demolition of commercial establishments.
MMRDA has now proposed to relocate Pandurangwadi station near the old Dahisar Octroi Naka plot to the east of the WEH carriageway. This will avoid the acquisition and demolition of existing commercial establishments on the western side of the Western Express Highway.
The entry gate into Mumbai near the naka is also to be demolished since it infringes on the metro alignment. MMRDA will build a new gate to replace it.
337 kilometres of metro lines are currently under various stages of execution in Mumbai. Work on the entire project is expected to complete by 2026, claims MMRDA.
