All coaches belonging Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) are now equipped with mobile charging points. Out of 3193 coaches, 3061 coaches of have LED lights, NFR said in a statement.
NFR added that 62 train pairs had on-board housekeeping services (OBHS) where a “coach mitra” would immediately attend to cleanliness requirements based on online requests received.
The ‘clean rail’ app was also available in 53 out of these 62 train pairs. NFR said the remaining nine pairs would also be equipped with the app shortly.
The app received about 168 requests per month for the April-October period during 2019.
Katihar, New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati have been designated under the “Clean train station” scheme. Under this, 31 trains are cleaned in Katihar, 43 in New Jalpaiguri and 33 trains in Guwahati station en-route their journey.
Quick watering system is already implemented in Guwahati while work is in progress at Lumding and New Jalpaiguri.
NFR plans to add Katihar, Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, New Bongaigaon, Rangapara, Mariani and Badarpur to its list of stations with quick watering system shortly.
Three mechanised laundries at New Jalpaiguri, Kamakhya and Dibrugarh are catering to about 65 per cent of NFR’s requirements of providing machine cleaned and washed linen to passengers. This is likely to increase up to 80 per cent by March 2020.
