Union Minister of Railways, Piyush Goyal on Sunday inaugurated the newly electrified 126-km section between New Jalpaiguri to New Coochbehar on Sunday. The project cost was Rs 287 crore according to a Railway Board Statement.
He also threw open several passenger amenity related works in North Bengal area through video conferencing.
Also inaugurated was the revamped Haldibari station bordering Bangladesh.The new station has 3 passenger platforms with 26 coach capacity and 2 goods lines.
The entire station including the new station building circulating area, running rooms, signaling system was constructed at a cost of about Rs. 82.72 crore.Electronic Interlocking at Haldibari and Jalpaiguri stations have also been provided.
Gangarampur station in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal has been converted to a crossing station with high level platform and electronic interlocking costing about Rs. 9.09 crore.
Alipurduar Jn station has been re-developed at a cost of Rs 8.11 crore. In addition, two lifts costing Rs 80.8 lakhs have also been installed. Madarihat station in the Dooars region now has a new FOB costing Rs 1.13 crore.
