Apart from ensuring the supply chains of all essential commodities by running parcel trains, freight trains and carrying stranded migrants from each and every corner of the country by running Shramik Special trains, N.F. Railways executed many new and pending works during the lockdown period when normal passenger services are suspended due to COVID -19 pandemic situations.N.F. Railways planned these works during lockdown period considering it “Once in a lifetime opportunity” to wipe out many maintenance arrears and take up the execution of new work without affecting the train service.Yesterday, (23.07.2020) girders of a new 6 m wide FOB (Foot over bridge) was launched at the Barsoi station under Katihar division of NFR.
This new foot over bridge will fulfil the long pending need of passengers travelling to & from Barsoi station. This new and wider FOB will help passengers to crossover between platforms easily while boarding/ de-boarding trains towards Katihar end of the platforms as the existing FOB is towards NJP end. 4(four) girders each weighting 17.5 tonne and 37500 mm length were launched by taking help of a road crane having lifting capacity of 200 tonnes.
For safe and successful launching of the girders 3 hrs traffic and power block was taken from11.05 hrs to 14.05 hrs. Senior railway officials of Katihar division were present at site monitoring the entire launching operation and ensuring completion within the scheduled time frame maintaining all COVID related precautions.
In NFR area various works like new Road over Bridge (ROB), Reinforced ConcreteCement Box Culverts and other amenities were constructed and placed into operation by taking the opportunity of lesser passenger train services during last few months.These works were done in addition to normal day to day maintenance works in this period.
