NFR: Quick Watering System, LHB Coaches, Better Lighting Adopted to Improve Passenger Amenities

Maligaon, 28th January, 2019: NFR has taken various steps in recent time which helped to better the punctuality performance of train running. Nearly 1000 LHB coaches have been put in operation on NFR in recent times. All the Coaching depot and Workshops of NFR have been upgraded to deal with maintenance of these modern coaches. For the first time in Indian Railways a load box testing facility of power car of LHB coaches have been set up in New Bongaigaon workshop of NFR.

It has helped better performance of power cars attached with LHB rakes by minimising failure and also ensured safety during train running. New DEMU services have been started in Dharmanagar – Agartala – Sabroom section of Tripura to provide better and speedier service to short distance passenger. 5 LHB rakes of Tinsukia division and 2 LHB rakes of Katihar Division have been converted into HOG compliant rakes.

This has enabled saving in diesel fuel, reduced environmental pollution apart from creating additional space in trains due to reduction of one Power car in each train.

The initiatives helped in betterment of passenger amenities and facilities.

To ensure watering of a complete train within a minimum stoppage time of 10 minutes, a quick watering system has already been commissioned at Guwahati and Lumding.  The Quick Watering System for 08 more stations are expected to be commissioned by June 2020.  This will help the elimination of the problem of passenger complaints arising out of non-availability of water in coaches.

Conventional lighting system inside coaches using incandescent lamp and CFL has been replaced for all AC & Non AC Coaches over NFR by retro-fitment of LED lights to increase energy efficiency and illumination. For improved passenger amenity, 840 no’s sleeper class coaches have been provided with 36 nos Mobile charging points from existing 18 nos.

To significantly enhance the passenger experience “Project Swarn” has been started to upgrade the condition of Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains.  This initiative has resulted in giving improved interiors in the coaches due to upgraded coach interior, toilet and on board services.
