Indian Railways ticket booking services will not be available for six hours every day for a week. The public transporter will shut down ticket booking services through its Passenger Reservation System (PRS) from 11.30 pm to 5.30 am every morning starting tonight. The shutdowns will continue for a week, with the last disruption expected on 21st November 2021. Booking of tickets online as well as at Indian Railways booking counters will be affected during this time.
In a sudden decision, Indian Railways earlier decided to switch back to its pre-COVID-19 standard train numbering. All scheduled trains will now operate with earlier numbers unless specified. Currently, Indian Railways has been operating trains as special services since railway services were restarted after the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
The week-long nightly shutdowns are In order to implement this mass change of train numbers.
IR says they will ensure the advance charting for the trains departing during the affected timings. Except for the PRS services, all other enquiry services including 139 services will continue uninterrupted.
