The monsoon season is challenging for public as well as train operations. Due to excessive rains in many places, there is erosion under the railway tracks and rail operations are interrupted. Special arrangements are made by the Railways during rainy season keeping in mind such conditions.
According to Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, Mr. Abhay Sharma, instructions have been given to all the four divisions on North Western Railway to adopt additional safety measures in the month of June.
Instructions have been issued for intensive monitoring at places where there is a possibility of excessive rain on the basis of previous years or if any thunderstorm, strong wind or heavy rain warning is issued by the meteorological department. On receipt of meteorological information / warning, the station master will immediately assist the concerned Assistant Engineer, Senior Section Engineer or mate and the trackmen will be directed to monitor the railway track with immediate effect.
Trackman have been directed to do intensive patrolling on railway lines, bridges etc. and patrol charts and patrol books have been prepared for them. Additional track maintenance material has been provided to deal with any difficult situation. To cope with erosion in areas of excess rainfall, adequate arrangements of soils, road, etc. are made so that soil erosion is reduced immediately under the track to maintain the rail operations. Along with this, there is a possibility of shifting stones in hilly areas where additional arrangements are being made and arrangements are being made for JCB and tractor etc. so that the track can be cleared immediately under any circumstances.
The staff of the engineering department will inspect the track as per regular schedule and take stock of all the conditions. In addition, an awareness seminar will be organized for all employees every month.
