Sh. Rajiv Chaudhry, General Manager Northern & North Central Railways held a performance review meeting with the departmental heads of Northern Railway through video conferencing.
He discussed the endeavors of various departments in maintaining top operational capability in the zone. Safety was one of the pivotal points in the meeting. The GM advised all the departments involved to concentrate their efforts on improving the health of the tracks with special focus on quality of welding work and CMS crossings.
He also added that issues related to maintenance and movement of wagons and coaches should be dealt with effectively and expeditiously.
Railways has been focusing on boosting the freight sector.
Northern Railway’s Business Development Initiatives
Dedicated Business Development Units (BDU) have been set up for this purpose. To make transportation of Goods by Railways easy and convenient for clients several new initiatives are being undertaken.
Vyapar Mala Express train is one of its kind initiative of Northern Railway under BDU where a piecemeal load can be expeditiously delivered to the destination.
He shared that Sh. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry has appreciated the effort of Northern Railway in creating freight business opportunities. Freight loading has been 23% more in April-July 20 than the corresponding period last year.
160 km/h Upgrade Progress
For increasing the speed of passenger trains under the Mission Raftaar Railway Board has asked the zonal railways to pinpoint sections where speed of the trains can be raised upto 160 kmph. The routes over NR have been identified and infrastructure enhancement works and speed trials are on-going.
The spread of the Coronavirus is still a cause of concern for the Nation. With the rise in cases in towns of UP state, the state govt. is in talks with the Railways for deployment of Isolation Coaches in cities like Lucknow and Moradabad for housing Covid patients.
The General Manager said that on Railway care for humanity is the primary duty we shall provide all necessary assistance to the central and state govt. to fight the disease.
