Paranormal Pantry: Indian Railways Removes Allegedly Haunted Coach After Staff Complaint

Indian Railways has replaced a pantry coach in the Grand Trunk Express after staff complained of having witnessed ‘supernatural activities’ in the allegedly haunted coach.

Social Media was agog with a couple of pictures that went viral yesterday. This was about a supposed ghost or a supernatural power stalking the Pantry Car of the Chennai – New Delhi Grand Trunk Express.

Officials of Coaching Depot Office, Basin Bridge, Chennai (CDO/BBQ) were surprised when the manager of the pantry car, Girish C, sent a letter stating that “…there are different supernatural activities in the Pantry, vendors are complaining about the presence of some ghost in this Pantry and they have felt the presence…” (sic).

The note urged the CDO to “… please kindly change the Pantry before anything wrong happens with the vendors…” (sic).

We could not reach out to Girish and his company to know exactly what happened for them to conclude the coach was possessed by some ghost or supernatural power. The listed numbers were inactive.

Official Reaction

RailPost got in touch with officials who did not wish to be identified. “We have taken the letter on record and detached the coach from the consist and provided a different pantry car,” the sources said. “The supernatural pantry car that was detached is now under fumigation and observation,” the sources added.

It is unclear what Southern Railway intends to do in case higher officials are able to confirm ghostly conduct in the quarantined coach.

New Coaches for Grand Trunk Express

This Grand Trunk express has been around for more than a century in various avatars. Like with many long-distance trains, a pantry car is attached to this train to serve the passengers. As with other trains, the pantry car services are outsourced to a catering contractor, in this case, Om Sai Ram Enterprises.

The supernatural suspicions come at a time when two rakes of the Grand Trunk Express are being converted to the more modern LHB rolling stock, likely next week. The remaining two rakes will be converted to LHB a little later.

With the paranormal pantry car exorcised from the consist, perhaps the pantry manager and staff have returned to work with renewed spirits.

  1. i think with the Covid- 19 and and other awareness of care needed, passengers may be carrying their food items. The need for pantry cars train wise may be worth reviewing ?.
