Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s first diesel to electric converted locomotive at the Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) in Varanasi on Tuesday. This follows Indian Railways’ mission of 100 percent electrification.
Named WAG-C3, this 10,000 hp loco was made out of twin WDG-3A diesel locos in 69 days by DLW. IR has decided to convert all diesel locomotives to electric during their mid-life rehabilitation, and utilise them till their codal life, a statement said.
