Indian Railways (IR) has hiked fares marginally for the first time since FY15 to shore up its coaching earnings.

The fare hike is as follows:
IR has not increased suburban fare and season ticket fares. Fares for ordinary non-AC classes has been hiked by one paise per /passenger-kilometre. These include second class ordinary, sleeper class ordinary and first-class ordinary.
The fares for Non AC classes in Mail/Express trains go up by two paise per passenger kilometre. This includes second class (Mail/Express), sleeper class (Mail/Express) and first-class (Mail/Express).
The fares for air-conditioned classes have been raised by four paise per passenger kilometre. These include AC Chair Car, AC 3 tier, AC 3 tier- Economy, AC 2-Tier, AC First Class, Executive AC Chair Car and Executive Anubhuti Class.
Fares of trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duranto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Garib rath, Rajya Rani, Yuva, Suvidha, specials trains on special fare, non-suburban DEMU and MEMU will be revised to the extent as per the proposed increase in class wise fares.
Other charges such as reservation fee, superfast surcharge remain the same.
The increase in fare will be on tickets bought on or after January 1, 2020. No excess fare (difference of fare) will be charged from passengers who have booked tickets prior to January 1, 2020.
