RCF’s Vande Metro rake’s 145-kmph speed trial successful

Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala successfully tested its Vande Metro rake at a speed of 145 kmph in West Central Railway’s Kota division on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

During the speed and braking distance trial, this rake successfully covered a distance of about 50 km at a speed of 145 kmph. RCF turned out this rake on September 30, 2024 for trials by RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organisation (Indian Railways’ R&D arm), an RCF statement said.

The train set was manufactured in 8 months time. RCF’s Vande Metro coaches has a seating capacity for 100 persons and a standing capacity for 180. The RCF rake will have 16 coaches and a seating capacity of 4364 and will be fit to run at 130 kmph.

This train set is equipped with passenger- driver talk back system in case of emergency, fire and smoke detection system, “Kavach” collision avoidance system, besides special toilets for disabled persons .

Presently, only one Vande Metro rake between Bhuj and Ahmedabad is operational. It has 12 coaches with a passenger capacity of 3602 and a speed of 110 kmph.
