A mere 30 days after receiving the proposal for a new loading line, South Central Railway successfully rolled out the first goods train from the new line.
SCR had commissioned a new goods shed at Manikgarh, a town in Maharashtra near the Telangana border, in March this year. Since then, the new shed has generated close to Rs. 60 crores in revenue every month, according to the zone.
In order to further increase loading throughput, the client approached the zone with a proposal for an additional loading line.
The zonal team immediately set to work. According to the zone, the existing line was extended further so as to accommodate two rakes simultaneously. Necessary work like formation, ballasting, tamping and track linking was carried out. The loading platform was also developed to facilitate stacking and loading. Work was completed within 30 days of receiving the proposal from the division.
As a result, the first rake was loaded from the new (extended) line yesterday. It will carry 4,083 tonnes of iron ore to Kakinada Port and generate Rs. 63 lakhs (approx) in revenue for Indian Railways.
