In the view of outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic, several precautionary measures have been implemented and several restrictions were imposed like country wide lockdown etc to restrict the mobility all over the country.
Indian Railways has also taken active part in contributing its part and has given instructions to the Officials and staff to implement the skeletal working system comprising bare minimal staff, with remaining persons to be available to work from home.
However, emergency services like continuous movement of freight and parcel trains for transportation of essential commodities are being ensured in the Nation’s interest.
Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) staff have rose to the situation accordingly and contributed their best to ensure safe and hassle free working of the System. Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR has instructed officials and staff to work from home as far as possible with stipulated conditions. All important works including Video conferences by senior officials are being carried out from home.
S & T staff along with Railtel Corporation has facilitated video conferencing duly ensuring the availability of required internet bandwidth at camp offices of senior officials and important locations. Innovative use of applications like web-ex from CISCO and ZOOM was made to facilitate video conferencing. Similarly, many audio conferencing facilities were also rendered by divisional teams to take the stock of the situation from remote places and convey important management decisions to all.
To facilitate COVID-19 related information and doubts of common public over SCR jurisdiction, 18 telephone lines were provided over the six divisions of the zone under the hunt numbering of 138 and 182. The numbers are being attended at Divisional Control Offices.
In addition, maintenance activity of Signals & Telephone lines is being regularly carried out to ensure safe running of goods trains for uninterrupted supply of essential goods.
All the Staff working during this emergent situation have been supplied with masks, hand wash, sanitizers and soaps and advised to maintain sanitization, disinfectant activity, physical distancing at workplaces. Everyday health status of staff is being taken by central office and whoever is having unusual symptoms are motivated for self-quarantine or health checkup.
Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR has expressed his satisfaction over the measures being taken by signal & telecom staff in providing internet and other online facilities to execute the work from residential & camp offices in the present lockdown period. He appreciated the efforts of the staff deployed for maintenance of S& T equipment in the prevailing situation and assisting in safe running of trains.
