The third Kisan Rail has been dispatched from Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh to Adarsh Nagar in Delhi on 21st October.
Starting with this dispatch, farmers have also been able to benefit from 50% concession announced by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries for notified fruits and vegetables.
A total of 242.6 tons of agricultural commodities are being shipped by this train.
Farmers and traders from the Chittoor district have also come forward to avail the Kisan Rail facility for transporting their produce, says a statement from South Central Railway.
To cater to the interested parties, SCR officials made necessary arrangements. This included notifying Mulakalacheruvu Railway Station for parcel loading. Two parcel vans were loaded with tomatoes from this station to be shipped to Nagpur.
Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway says that opening of loading point at Mulakalacheruvu will benefit the farmers cultivating in and around the villages surrounding the station.
In addition, 201 tons of fruits and vegetables were loaded from Anantapur station. In all, 12 parcel vans, with four meant for Nagpur and another eight for Delhi, were dispatched. Commodities loaded include tomato, musk melon, mosambi, lemons and oranges among others.
