Bilaspur based South East Central Railway (SECR) has cemented its position as Indian Railways’ highest freight earner. The zone has earned Rs. 23,298 crores from originating freight in financial year 2018-19, according to information provided by SECR officials.
This is 13% higher than SECR’s originating freight earnings in FY 2017-18. The zone has broken previous records, by racking up 185.5 million tonnes of freight loading in FY 2018-19. Coal and ore are the key drivers of freight traffic in SECR.
On infrastructure performance, SECR has completed 59 km doubling and tripling work in FY 2018-19, Gauge Conversion of 92 route kilometres and electrification of 182 kilometres of route.
SECR contributes over 12% of Indian Railways freight revenue to the national transporter with 4% of the total network route kilometrage under its jurisdiction.
