South Eastern Railway has loaded 175.83 million tons of freight in the financial year 2020-21. This is the first time the zone has achieved this number since South East Central Railway and East Coast Railway were carved out of it in 2002-03. This surpassed 2019-20 loading of 171.96 million tonnes by 2.25%.
SER’s revenue from freight loading during the financial year 2020-21 reached Rs. 14,492.72 crores, Rs. 33.52 crores higher than FY2019-20’s Rs.14,459.20 crores.
Of the four divisions of South Eastern Railway, Chakradharpur Division has loaded 137.09 million tonnes in the financial year 2020-21, which is also an all-time record.
The main commodities loaded by SER were iron ore, coal, pig iron & finished steel, cement, food grains, fertiliser etc. loading of iron ore during the year 2020-21 was to the tune of 104.69 million tonnes which is 5.11% more than iron ore loading of 2019-20.
On the last day of the financial year 2020-21 i.e. on 31.03 21, record loading of 103737 wagons was achieved which is the highest ever loading on a single day beating previous best of 92885 wagons on 31.03.2019.
In the initial part of last fiscal, in spite of the pandemic effect, SER continued with freight transportation to keep the supply chain of essential commodities steady. With the gradual improvement of the situation, the freight services of SER bounced back.
