South Western Railway: Achievement and Outlook 2021-22

During April – December 2021, 231 route km of railway line have been electrified in SWR. SWR tops in this duration in carrying out electrification among all the railway zones all over the country.

The section which have been electrified from January – December 2021 are mentioned below.

CRS Date indicates the date on which the statutory inspection by commissioner of railway safety has been carried out. It also indicates the date from which the electrification in the section has been commissioned.

In this financial year 2021, till December – 2021 SWR has loaded 31 MT of Freight. 

This is 20% more than the frieght loaded by SWR in the corressponding duration 2021.

In this financial year 2021, till December – 2021 SWR has recorded the highest ever loading of parcel we have carried 251.77 Tonnes of cargo and earned a revenue of Rs.88.92 Crores.This corresponds to 140% growth in parcel transportation over same period in 2020. This includes Kisan special trains and special parcel Cargo express trains (time tabled parcel trains). These initiatives have benefited farmers, retail traders, and manufacturers of industrial and other components in Bengaluru and surrounding area. They are able to transfer their produce to various parts of the country and reach newer markets.

We have transported 171 rakes of automobiles from Bengaluru Div to various parts of the country from April – December 2021, which is the highest ever. Toyota, Kia, TVS are some of the key customers of SWR. Railways has emerged as a reliable transporter of choice. Toyota has shifted from road based transport to rail based transport.

The doubling between Devarapalle-Hindupur (10.72 km ) was commissioned on 15.12.2021 (Bengaluru Divison). All over SWR from April-December 2021, 61km Doubling project has been commissioned, including Madgaon-Sanvordem (15 km) and Hombal-Hole Alur (36 km).

In this financial year 2021-22, ie upto March, Hindupur-Penukonda(38 km) doubling is planned to be completed by the end of Jan-2022, Gadag-Hombal (16 km) is planned to be completed by the Jan-2022 (part of Gadag – Hotgi doubling project), Nittur-Banasandra (22 km) is planned to be completed by Jan-2022 (part of Tumkur-Arsikere doubling project), Haveri-Saunshi (50 km) (part of Hubballi – Bengaluru doubling project) is planned to be completed by February -2022, Londa-Suldhal (78 km) is planned to be completed by March-2022. These infrastructure Projects will give a huge boost to the connectivity across Karnataka.
